I’m married, but it’s a lot of work.
There are definitely pluses and minuses, but not being lonely is a big plus.
Happiness is transitory personal thing, and marriage and/or life partners won’t change that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I "too woke" for thinking the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic is disgusting?
30·4 days agoAllegedly this prevented them from depicting the victims in any way, and there was an expensive re-shoot to end the plot earlier in the story at the Victory Tour.

California@lemmy.world•Open since the '70s, this Calif. McDonald's has never served a single customer
1·4 days agotl;dr It’s used by McDonalds themselves for commercials, and for TV and movie productions.
If you liked Underdog 1964, which I loved, then you might also like 1959 Mr. Peabody and Sherman as fun with history, and also 1959 Rocky & Bullwinkle
They were all Jay Ward productions, and are all classics!
- Superman: TAS
- Justice League
- Justice League Unlimited
are from the same era and are also amazing!
The first High Times mention of 4:20 smoking and a 4/20 holiday… erroneously attributed the origin of the term to a police code
Police code/law is where I thought 420 came from, but apparently that’s incorrect.
TIL!
Champagne Cocktail: A sugar cube at the bottom of a champagne flute, a few drops of bitters to taste, then add chilled champagne.

California@lemmy.world•California 2026 Poll: Swalwell Exit from Governor Race Opens Lane for Democrat Xavier Becerra - Emerson Polling
1·7 days agofacepalm
Becerra gained the most leaping from 3% to 10%
Steyer gained went from 11% to 14%, and Porter who went from 8% to 10%.
With the +/- 3% error, Steyer is measurably ahead of Porter and Becerra, but still not enough to overtake 2nd place Republican Bianco

2·9 days agoHmm, I’ve never considered this.
What’s the ratio of PB to mayo? One side of a slice each?

It will give you a chance to grow as a person.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could magically form new nations, which would you break away or unify? (non-serious)
27·10 days agoOne world under my benevolent iron fist, ruled from my volcano base.
At its best, I think it’s a science horror show.
Horror is relatively cheap to produce. The stranger and more bizarre the makeup, costumes, sets and effects are, the better it works.

California@lemmy.world•California may ban artificial stone countertops after lung disease outbreak
3·11 days agoI think you’re placing too much faith in just the existence of good equipment to keep workers safe.
Good safe equipment does exist, But 1) It only works to protect employees health if it’s in good condition, and 2) Depending on employers who aren’t cheap enough or ignorant enough to use inferior equipment that will indirectly endanger employees’ health.
It’s more reliable just to require use of safe materials, especially if there isn’t much cost difference.

3·13 days agoTl;dr The Middle East is a major export destination for California walnut exports. The Iran war has disrupted logistics, stranding walnut shipments at multiple ports across the globe.

California@lemmy.world•Eric Swalwell drops bid for California governor after sexual misconduct allegations
6·14 days agoI thought Porter was also canceled for abusing her staff?
It is said that a woman hasn’t earned her stripes until she gets called “bitch”
Even in the original 2023 article exposing Porter’s alleged Congressional staff abuse, it is questioned whether similar male behavior towards their subordinates would be judged as harshly.

California@lemmy.world•Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorses Katie Porter in California governor’s race
1·14 days agoYeah, I noticed that RCV in MN seems to be concentrated around the Minneapolis/St. Paul population center.
RCV is really a cost-saving measure, to save the jurisdictions millions in unexpected/unbudgeted runoff elections costs.
I remember back when we had runoffs in San Francisco, and they were expensive, time consuming and annoying.
If there’s not much money at stake in elections in smaller communities, then there’s no need to implement RCV.

California@lemmy.world•Masked Men in San Francisco Offer Cash for Signatures on Ballot Initiatives
4·14 days agoIf you see something like this, and violently oppose the initiative, then sign an obviously false name, like Donald Duck, on a sheet that’s almost full of signatures.
One invalid signature invalidates a whole sheet.

Depends on how secure your financial future is.
Maybe you’re in a good predictable business, or a nice stable government job, maybe you’re in something that’s making money right now, but could turn out to be a flash in the pan like startups, or AI or crypto or Pokemon cards.
Anything can happen, but if you can pay off the loan on your new house quickly, that reduces risk by a lot.
