What do you boycott? e.g. games, music, shows, food
I boycott economically. So I’ll eat a hamburger, but not one from McDonald’s, et al. I’m not even sure what boycotting a culture even means, nor what it would entail and/or accomplish.
So I don’t buy anything that winds up lining the pockets of Americans. That’s my boycott. This means that, for example, my next smartphone will not be running iOS or Android. It means I don’t go to American chain restaurants or buy brands owned by American companies (even, perhaps especially, if they claim, like a certain famous brand of ketchup in Canada does with its tomatoes, to source the raw materials in the host country). It means that I will not pay to see an American movie, nor to listen to the music of an American band.
I went to an American themed BBQ place a few weeks ago and thought about this. It’s not a chain, it’s a single place owned (I assume) by an American immigrant.
I should therefore support them as they have left America. (And it was really good! The soft drinks were weird though)
American Culture is Common Culture at this point…
For years, the United States has benefited most from globalization. They either don’t admit it or don’t realize it.
This American does. Being the only country not bombed to hell in WWII is a great way to fall ass backwards into hegemony.
a bigger measure is not being bombed in the last 50 years. lol
I’m really trying, but it’s so hard. So much turns out to be American if you look closely. It looks like a local company, which on closer inspection is owned by a parent company, which is owned by some sort of group entity, which is owned by big US Corp.
Just today I bought some chips/crisps (flat crunchy potato product), they were on promotion and my monkey brain said: “Yes tasty! Buy buy, buy now, eat later, tasty!”. It wasn’t till I was home I looked it up and jup, it’s ultimately owned by PepsiCo. Fuck…
Getting rid of all the digital services that are American or run on American owned infrastructure is hard as well. Even local services often use AWS or Azure. And I found it’s often pretty hard to find that out without actually getting the services, which is exhausting.
For some things it’s morally hard as well. I’ve been supporting a content creator for years now. He has a small community and we like to chat on Discord a lot. He lives in the US and streams on Twitch and YouTube. I would rather not use Twitch and YouTube or support him using PayPal for example. On the other hand, he’s a good dude, he didn’t vote for this shit. I consider him a digital friend and actually met him once. I’m not sure what to do, I’ve got very mixed feelings about it.
You don’t have to cut ties with american people just because their president is an ass to the world
We cut ties with American people because they are annoying, puritanical and self-entitled.
I know this is a hot take but this would actually just be racism if it weren’t for everyone globally thinking it is funny and warranted to dunk on americans when conveinant.
“American” is a race now?
Americans are a people in a country, you know, the ones people like to dunk on.
So they’re not a race is what you’re saying. So dunking on them is not racism.
I know that it’s an American pastime to try and find their victim status, but you have to at least TRY to get the terminology right, dude!
I suggest reading more carefully
We don’t need to involve racism, an American pseudo-science, to consider Americans barbarians. That’s what an American would do: to reduce everything about race when it has nothing to do with it.
Also, it’s white guilt, we all know American liberals and leftists enjoy this stuff.
