  • Nope

It’s all car lobbies, corrupt politicians, people doing everything possible to get rid of trains for people, get rid of bicycles in cities, everything needs to be designed for cars first, then whatever, turning every US (And Canadian and Mexican) city in a car park.

Hell, jaywalking as a concept was invented by car manufacturers because cars were killing so many people. Instead of doing something about the cars, we now just blame it on this invention from cars manufacturers.

    Anything to push cars

Take a look at the Netherlands. It’s been working on less car for decades. It’s enormously densely populated and we simply don’t have the space for ginormous car parks and clogged road arteries. Back in the 1960’s they stopped the carification of cities and pushed for bicycle use and public transportation. Cars can get to most places still, but everything is principally designed for pedestrians, then cyclists, then cars. Most city centers block even bicycles, allowing people to walk only

The result? Moving about in the Netherlands is super easy, and the cities are amazing and safe. There are bicycle freeways, the cities are much quieter, the air is cleaner.

Other European cities finally followed suit in the past decade, with great results

Canada is trying a little bit of this in Vancouver, with mixed results because a lot of the designs they’re trying are designs everyone knew were bad and dangerous since back in the 1980s, but good on them for at least trying.

I know, you were talking about trains, and keep talking about bicycles, but it’s relevant. The two go together and should be implemented together.

Short distance, < 1 kilometers, people can and should walk. < 10 kilometers, bicycles. More than that, you use trains in between cities and busses for the less urban routes and inside the cities.

This is how it should be. People cycling are healthier. It generates less CO2, it pollutes less. Similarly, trains are way WAY more energy efficient and way less polluting than all those cars.

It’s just the politicians who keep being paid and lobbied to make sure car manufacturers can fill their pockets. Electric cars won’t change most of this, they only sort of solve the CO2 problem

  • No

This is the same as “but video games cause real world violence!”

It to mention that boat loads of women get off on porn themselves, great way to act as if pure moral women would never do such depraved things like watch anal porn. Fuck that shit

    Stop posting religious propaganda, please

  • I don’t care about it because it’s a NASA mission and I’ve noticed that anything American these days makes me nauseous.

Call me anything you like, I don’t care, this is how o feel after years of america bullshit and decades of more murrica bullshit with their preprogrammed exceptionalism.

I look down upon them, I pity them at best

And then there is something as great as this and I just can help but feel like it’s tainted somehow. I know it’s an international collaboration, but still, the smell somehow remains

I’m sorry, but fuck, so much misery and death and suffering has been brought to the world by the US for so long already… Trump is just the next iteration taking this place to its natural conclusion. Of course trump is corrupt, the country has been through and through corrupt for decades. This is just a typical self absorbed American grabbing the chance geven to get me myself and I to the top.

So yeah, mixed feelings at best.

What I meant is that I have a list of about 7000 songs on spotify that I have built over the years, I would like to have THAT list of music. If I go to a self hosted option, that is great, but without the media, worthless… I can download all the music that I want, but that will be a ginormous amount for a tiny amount of songs that I actually like. I’m already hosting a huge movie library, but I fear I might need hundreds of TB more storage to save all the music that I want :)

I guess I’m looking for a “download only these songs/albums/bands from this spotify list” type thing

  • Linux has emergency modes for booting as well. The old ways would work with run levels, and the newer ways (through systemd) I honestly don’t know. However, a bootable USB is usually the best solution because it won’t boot a drive with a possibly damaged filesystem that needs repairs before accessing it, that sort of stuff. There is a reason why it is a separate storage device to boot from.

I’m just saying that if you take an experimental or very hard to master OS for your day to day work, or storing your family photo albums, then yeah, you’re playing with fire, because the OS can trip you up in many ways. Linux is great, but potentially unforgiving when you make mistakes. Ubuntu Linux is at the point where normal users need to work hard to mess stuff up, but if you go for gentoo or something else experimental or DIY, then yeah, you better be prepared to take the consequences when things go down south
