Hi everyone,

I’m new to Lemmy and still learning how everything works here.

I’m from China and just wanted to say hello 👋

What communities do you recommend for new users?

Nice to meet you all!

    Hi and welcome. :^)

To find new communities, subscribe to this one:

    [email protected]

Another way to find new communities:

If you resonate with a comment from someone, click their username to show their post history, then explore the different communities that they have posted to. Click the community name to find the subscribe button.

    Welcome!

I start on my home feed, and when that ends I go to all feed. In all feed I recommend you subscribe whenever you see a post or community you like, and block communities even more liberally to make the all-feed less cluttered and more chance of actually seeing se niche communities.

I sort by new in all feeds and comments so I don’t miss anything due to not having as much interaction.

That’s super helpful tips! I’ll try sorting by new and blocking more communities to find niche content better.

好啊!Where in China are you from?

I studied for a semester in 云南. 好想吃米线啊!

I miss so much food from China. Stumbling home drunk and getting fried rice cooked over one of those intense burners that sound like a jet engine. All the 烧烤 was incredible. And in 云南 the 傣菜 was always so special. 🤤

Because the fediverse is small, niche communities tend to have little content and it’s quite likely that most popular content will end up in your feed. I found it was helpful to subscribe to communities after i saw a post i liked from that community.

    Welcome, hope you like it!

Haha for sure! You should come back to China sometime. Wuhan (Hubei), Hunan and Jiangxi all have incredible cuisine. Super spicy, but totally authentic and tasty.

Hope y’all don’t mind me joining in the conversation lol 😅

I was born in 广州 (Parents from 台山), family emigrated when I was around 8.

I kinda wonder what Guangzhou is like nowadays… my mom and older brother is going there visiting right now and I didn’t feel like going cuz of depression and that felt too stressful, and also I wasn’t sure how the firewall thing would work… I’m kinda addicted to stuff like Youtube…

I don’t even have much memories anymore… I wonder if there’s any remnants my “footsteps” in my old apartment.

I remember a memory of having 小笼包 but don’t remember much, but I recently had some in the US tho…

I’ve been to Hong Kong like once when I was so young, barely even old enough remember it.

I’ve been there! Absolutely the best food ever. Climate is ungodly hot, but the food…

I’d love to go back, i really want to visit like a million historical sites and food places. I’ve heard such good things about Hunan food. I always make sure to say “要大辣” when i order chinese here in the US, hoping they will make it proper spicy.

Hey, welcome! ☺️ I’m a big art nerd, so I really enjoy comms like [email protected] and [email protected]

There are lots of small niche communities I like that aren’t very active, but that I enjoy anyway, so if you see communities that dont have a ton of traffic they might be worth subbing to anyway- if someone posts something you might see it, if they dont then you won’t :) dont be afraid to add it to your feed if its something youd wanna see traffic ftom even if its not as active as one might expect on reddit
