I’m so happy to have finally taken decent photos of one. He’s quite the specimen too. He knows he’s the prettiest bird at the feeder. Even if he’s a messy eater.

Those are wonderful shots! thank you, this has brightened my day.
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad to have helped, even a little.
But what is it that makes him deadly?

Deadly for small insects.
The detail in that last picture!!! We mostly seem to have white-breasted nuthatches here in my area. Great pics as usual!
Yeah I rarely see the red-breasted ones. While the white-breasted nuthaches are more common, I haven’t seen any in a few weeks.
A bit scruffier than the UK equivalent (and it isn’t upside down, so clearly not a real nuthatch!) but fine photos of a fine bird!
I watched this little guy for about 20 minutes and he never once did the upside down thing. Very strange indeed for a nuthatch. I think he was more curious about the bird feeder and all the chickadees, white-throated, sparrows, white-crowned sparrows, tree sparrows, dark-eyed juncos, and squirrels mobbing the feeder. Someone had dumped like 4lbs of seed and the animals were going nuts over it.
“someone” indeed.
Lol, I do bring seed for the birds, but not 4lbs of seed.
