As a non-neurodivergent person with no texture issues, I find this subject fascinating. I find many of the textures listed here to be interesting, but not anxiety-inducing or anything like that. What makes your reaction to it so much different than mine? It’s so interesting that the brain would react so differently.
People taste things differently, smell things differently, etc., so why not react differently to textures?
Ive a similar perspective and I live with multiple neurodivergent people in my house. It seems like a visceral reaction that doesn’t even make it to the brain. Just like your hand jerks back if you touch something hot, they immediately gag or cough or itch or whatever.
They ate or touched one thing one time, decided they didn’t like it, and now their limbic system protects them from anything similar to it.
It seems to be mostly food and clothing. I can’t tell the difference between these two cotton shirts but they will have a long conversation about how one in great and the other is horrible.
