The reason this is important and timely is because the messaging around these tools implicitly suggests there is an air of authority and integrity it would be impossible for them to have given that no journalists have examined and analyzed the mechanisms of these tools at any stage of their development.

    The post title and body don’t make this clear, but “AI authentication tools” in this context refers to tools that verify the authenticity of journalistic image and video media to confirm they’re not AI-generated.

      It’s also not a commonly-used term. “AI authentication” mostly refers to using machine-learning AI as an authentication method (eg image recognition, behavior observation, etc.)

      This sounds more like just “fact checking”.
