I mean the data hoarding, not documentary.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel a kinship with people who drive the same make/model car as you?
3·6 days agoI did when I drove a Saab. I got it right around 2009 or so when the brand was dying off anyway. GM pretty much killed it, but the market finished it. Anyway, was always fond of them bc they’re safe and they weren’t common in the state anyway.
Now, I give a little rev for other manuals/standard trans I notice at a light as an acknowledgement they’re not alone. I usually get a little smile or nod haha. Easy to tell on flat ground and no brake lights on.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is an old movie that couldn't be made today?
12·8 days agoHeck yeah, the unedited or “Not Rated” DVD version had the uncut scene where she defecates on his chest! Quite funny at the time, but I cannot imagine then doing something like that now, nor all the 9/11 jokes. Plus making fun of NK’s Jim Jong Il. I feel like you couldn’t really do that without stirring the pot at least a little bit.

Privacy@lemmy.world•Parents Decide Act: Is there any info regarding OS implementataion that would allow early effort to circumvent?English
11·9 days agoTime to start disabling updates and packages for a bunch of devices.
I’m redoing my laptop back up Windows 8.1 just to have it (lightweight and enshitter-free) and then dual booting Linux on there. Desktop already Linux but may download even more ISOs just to have them handy.
Will eventually setup p2p for anyone who wants them. I’ve got close to 200tb.
We spread word to migrate to federated and non US tech platforms to start taking their financial leg, then ad revenue drops and slowly they weaken. The weaker they are, the less political influence (aka purchasing power) they have!

9·10 days agoWe can’t revolt if they keep sending over (somewhere) young adults as part of a draft. It’s like they have to minimize who could uprise, and young gen Z and alpha are the ones pushing back on following the rules, but are also the most affected by the draft.

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•'Addicted to hacking': Young hacker behind historic breach speaks out for 1st time, before reporting to prisonEnglish
34·11 days agoLet me comment before finishing the article: this is a software’s lack of security problem, not a young teenager’s problem.
The fact they were breached, that’s nothing new. Same goes for everyone’s SSN under the sun, who cares?! The fact that a young person is owning up to it now, they have to punish and make such a big example out of him, it distracts from the failure of big tech…
Edit: another reason not to put all your eggs in one basket. PowerSchool is an American tech company, public on NYSE in 2021, and now owned by Bain Capital… Would you PLEASE THINK OF THOSE INVESTORS!!!
I was under the impression “air-gap” doesn’t apply to browsers, as you’d need to not have an outside internet connection.
