I see someone just watched a Tom Scott video. You should get nebula! Could see it a week early 😄

Doubt you would have issues. Just on April fools I bought an xyz domain and pointed it at my unraid server to host a site for my wife to prank her coworker. It all worked just like normal.

I completely forgot that last.fm was audioscrobbler. Fuck that was a long time ago

Context matters. Turns out when you tell stories you kinda have to read the whole thing rather than just snippets.
I do think it’s a bad idea. I’ve heard of too many people finding out after they get married that they are completely sexually incompatible. It’s very hard to get past that.
But waiting a long time in the relationship to have sex is probably a very good idea. It can be one of the last few boundaries.

I’ve read the article too and it also just seems badly designed. Their “storage costs” are most likely due to short s3 file lifetimes and so they’re literally just getting killed on storage for no reason. If they rented VPS space across the planet and just used normal hard drives their costs would likely drop instantaneously.

I’m not who you are talking to originally, but as lot of that is just kinda nonsense. They say they can’t have their own servers in DCs around the world cause it would cost too much…. But it wouldn’t, that’s just incorrect. They’re clearly spending 1.3 million on s3 data and the short file lifetime is killing them. If they just bought drive capacity and hosted on VPSes around the world they’d likely have a much much smaller bill. Yeah it sounds scary, but they’re already doing scary stuff.

Is it really that different between neighboring countries? I’ve seen job listings for 170 in the Netherlands and Switzerland.

I’m pretty sure there’s some software to prevent what the other user said from happening as well.

Apple TV was the best media thing I’ve bought in over a decade. No ads ever, incredibly responsive (league of its own compared to stuff like Roku), and is able to stream from my Jellyfin server. Beautiful interface, fast, clean, simple controller with a battery life that is easily over a year. Just a really good product. Roku can suck by nuts. Literal full page ads in a product that advertises that it has zero of them. Even the most expensive version. Fuck Roku.
It’s so cheap that paying for it for a single show (jet lag) is easily worth it. We watch only a few things on there but they’ve all been good and very high quality. And no ads (or sponsored content bullshit) is awesome.
