I spend a lot of time in the woods wandering around, and cutting wood. Deer ticks are everywhere. All my clothes, and shoes are sprayed with permethrin. I give my dogs Bravecto. No problems with ticks. There are no cottonmouths in my area, north of the Mason-Dixon line - yet. In fact, I have never seen a poisonous snake in my area.

Bears are babies. My little dog chases them away. My son-in-law walked between a mother bear and her cubs while hiking. She woofed at him and charged up to 15 yards away from him. He stood very still and the mama bear stopped and woofed some more then ambled off.

I buy a large can of no odor permethrin at Walmart for about $10. You can also buy low odor permethrin. I have also used the standard livestock permethrin but it has a strong smell until it dries, then it is odorless. After the clothes are washed, hang them out and spray them. Take extra care to spray around all openings. After they are dry I place a small piece of blue masking tape inside the clothes on the size tag so I know they were treated. I spray my gloves, shoes and boots monthly. They say the clothes treatment is good for 3 washing but I re-treat them after every wash to be extra careful. Permethrin is very toxic to cats but harmless to them when it is dry. I also drag the dog beds outside and treat them, then bring them back in when they are dry - we haven’t seen a flea in years.
