I went through inspection and appraisal 5 years ago when I refinanced, so that’s all fine. But I would lose my insanely good mortgage (15 year at 2.2% APR) and have to start again with whatever current rates are though I could likely put down a very large down payment.

I wasn’t seriously considering the offer so much as wondering how legit it was in preparation to sit down and think about thinking about considering the offer lol. But the replies here have cleared up how predatory these offers are, so, yeah, it’s going in the trash with the rest of the similar offers.

Nothing wrong with a realtor, but I’d have to have somewhere to move to while it’s on the market which could be any length of time. I only skimmed the offer, but it mentioned something about transition period for moving, etc.

I was mostly hoping this would let me short-circuit the usual process of selling and moving, letting me get the money for it, and find somewhere temporary while I look for something permanent.

Other than just wanting out of this awful state, I really don’t want to move/sell. I’d worry about finding another job later as I work remotely now but am expected to go in on occasionally so couldn’t work from another state for too long.

But as the replies have made clear, this entire industry is more of a scam than I assumed it already was, so I’m just gonna keep buying lotto tickets and hoping for the best.

Heh, thanks. My main view is that there are lots and lots and lots of views that exist between the extreme ends of the ideological spectrum, and apparently that’s a controversial opinion here. 🙄

Far left crazies and far right crazies are removed with equal prejudice, though the far right is much rarer (and often just trolls). Regardless, it’s moderated here to a, well, moderate temperature. We also don’t federate with the Triad (Hexbear, Grad, and .ml) as well as a few other instances (one of them a big instance that throws an error on a calculator) that are centered around and encourage identity politics (another source of what you’re describing in your post).

Even though we’re “closed” I still keep the instance running in order to develop the Tesseract UI, and if you want to try out the kind of space that’s curated here, I would be willing to approve your application. I’ve toyed with the idea of re-launching and seeking out another admin or 3, but haven’t had the time to put much thought into it.

TL;DR is I’ve always tried to run Dubvee as “normie friendly” and cut out some of the more, uh, rabid parts of the fediverse, and if you want to try it out, I’d be willing to allow it.

Technically speaking, I invented vaping.

In high school economics class, we had to invent a fake product, fill out patent applications, do focus groups, make a commercial and print ads, and do all the other stuff you’d normally do if you were a real company (except we submitted paperwork to the teacher, obviously, and not the USPTO).

My group’s product was a weight-loss product called “FlavorAir” (“Anorexia Fast” didn’t test well with our focus groups). It was a spray device that misted flavored air into your mouth to satiate cravings (our product prop was just breath spray). We advertised flavors like gravy, turkey dinner, mint chocolate ice cream, banana mint, and several others.

This was in the early 00’s and predates vaping by many years. I should be rich.

Look at the Nokia 2780, Nokia 110, and/or the Nokia 3210.

They’re modern equivalents to their predecessors of yore and run a simple non-smartphone OS (Kai OS) and use VoLTE so are compatible with modern networks. Bonus is they can do things like hotspot.

I was looking at those and similar about a year and a half ago when I wanted to switch to a dumb phone. I ended up compromising with the CAT S22 Flip which is a low-end Android phone in a flip phone form factor. Wasn’t difficult to de-Google and was able to root it. Unfortunately, they’re not made anymore so what’s left is what’s left. They’ve also jumped quite a bit in price since I got mine for $69.99 back in 2024.
