People don’t subscribe to institutions with no credibility and don’t provide value in return.
ha, ok. have you met many people? id like to introduce you to an entirely fake valuation we call the “stock market”… where nothing is real and unfortunately for poor people, everything matters
you should know that local and state laws have been enacted specifically to prevent communal telcom services in many places
…because your politicians are bought and paid for. good luck.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a 'social rule' that we all follow but nobody ever actually agreed to?
7·11 days agoi wonder if there is natural instinct to not have your back to the only opening in any space… which then leads to the question of how can you discern a ‘silent social contract’ from instinct? is there even a difference?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does the Fediverse (Mastodon/Lemmy) seem to have more momentum than Nostr wouldn't you think it'd be better for the degoogle crowd and the people whom value privacy?
111·11 days agoyes… imagine a distributed 4chan
blech. who the fuck would want that bullshit ?! we all know the answer; kids, trollz and scumbags… ie; nostr

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Reuse old server for a youth center
28·11 days agothe issue is that its very old. when running it, you will use a ton more electricity and be a lot slower than even a 5-8 year old unused retail box/workstation.
yes, you could throw ubuntu on there and it will work fine. then you could toss docker on there and play with some container apps for the kids maybe… like a mintecrafter server.
but, like i said, youd be better off digging a more recent workstation out of some garbage can and doing the same thing.
e. ha, just checked that is a desktop/workstaton box…i thought you were talkin a real HP server… they have much larger power requirements. that little box you have there would be fine for a little mini server for light apps.

231·11 days agonostr is a literal digital cesspool. its where all the people who need the ‘free speech’ to be racist, scamming pieces of shit go.
human beings are kinda shit. without self-regulation, human beings are very much shit. so when you throw 100% anonymity anywhere, you get the absolute worst of humanity by default.

Opensource@programming.dev•Cal.com Goes Closed Source: Why AI Security Is Forcing Our Decision
34·11 days agoim very confused, can any developers comment?
isnt this literally the reason to be open source? that vulnerabilities can be scanned and fixed publicly.
that there is now tooling that can lightspeed accelerate the detection of bugs shouldnt change that fact… or am i missing something?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't I care about the Artemis mission/program?
7·19 days agofair… i grew up with the shuttle… we were constantly reminded about the science
even that sucked due to the politics… as i would later find out the shuttle was stupidly inefficient but profitable for some

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't I care about the Artemis mission/program?
281·19 days agofor me its not only the glacier pace of progress… its also the lack of scientific motivation.
this didnt happen for science… its a political tool

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
01·25 days agoyou lack reading comprehension skills. the value was to my ex employer, obviously.
i love how in your infinite ignorance you ignored the fact i bolted purposefully. fuck off you piece of shit
annd the other point you seem to be missing is the internal pipelines this shit is currently fucking automating. its not about end users using tokens, or idiots generating images with 6 fingers. its about businesses moving and processing data, replacing humans that used to do that shit.
it has ZERO to do with “im trying to bundle ai into my new shiny app, buy it!”
idiots.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
01·25 days agoi cant understand why people are oblivious to the multi-faced war-front that is AI.
theres the shit you hear about and see every day (oh look copilot shit the bed! claude cant add! teehehee look at all the extra fingers!) and then theres the shit that is actually being implemented in process models all over the place in nearly every department. from inventory to healthcare analysis to customer service, this shit is in daily use now … and you cannot avoid it.
ai is just an api call away and software companies suck.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
01·25 days agoim an ex corp drone whose value was replacing humans with automation.
it sucks, its already exists, it will happen more. llms are already in these pipelines and theres nothing any of us can do to avoid it.
im not saying its good. im not saying it should be. im saying, it exists right now cuz ive been a part of it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
01·25 days agoyou do know at some point the whole ‘hallucinations’ line is going to be as fresh as calling things ‘woke’, right?
the ‘does this thing have ai in it’ is already a fucking blur as businesses link to each other via private and public APIs… healthcare is no different.
these things are already in place in many places. if youre a part of any nation wide health services, youre already impacted.
its like the fact that a huge % of our GDP is tied to like 10 companies… you cannot live your life in the modern united states without suffering products or services from those 10 companies, full stop. your life with ai will look the same.
can you work hard avoid shit and cry about it? yep. yep you can… but thats about it.
originalucifer@moist.catsweat.comto
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you keep seeing a doctor that required to you agree to the use of AI in your treatment to continue being a patient?
01·25 days agoid request further information. is the LLM used for secondary analysis? is it the primary and the doctor evaluates the results manually?
‘ai’ is just a tool in the right hands that can be beneficial. that said, it absolutely can be used by lazy assholes to pretend to do their job…
so, if you ave the resources to demand ‘no ai’… go for it, but im too poor to demand much, and id be more focused on the use of the ai.

you can literally slice it by platform. you wanted a specific value for a set of platforms, there they are. it exactly answers their question.
