How did all these other countries do that, and not the US? I think it starts with “America doesn’t have poor people, they have temporarily embarrassed millionaires”. So everyone is voting in the interest of the capitalist class, because they want to believe they are part of it. Where that comes from is a matter of historical processes.

My immediate thought with this is that is to force the opponents to vote against it, so that it becomes another example to use as an argument for voting in people that aren’t against any progress.

I think they’re saying that an electorate that stupid wouldn’t have been voting for reasonable policy even before that.

But but America number 1, no? So the new law should push them to the first place. They could call it the America Number One act.

Well it is nice to realise that despite putting in the work, it is a huge privilege to have the freedom to be born in a time and place where you actually get the chance to realise your potential - instead of having suffered abuse at home, being sent to a farm or factory at 8 years old or simply dieing from diarrhoea. So yeah, sucks if people want to be thankful to god for that, but being thankful for what good exists in the world is a positive thing.
