“The experiments began in August 1961 at Yale University, three months after the start of the trial of German Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Milgram devised his psychological study to explain the psychology of genocide and answer the contemporary question of whether Eichmann and accomplices in the Holocaust could validly claim that they were just following orders.”

"The director finds a boxful of 8 mm films with pictures from all over the world at a garage sale.
Night after night the thin strips of plastic lying in the box come to life. They are clearly filmed by the same person, but who has wanted to capture all these moments? The calm after the storm, an oriental dancer, the mist in Machu Picchu – and a maggot eating a leaf, the screaming neon signs of Manhattan. The mysteriously quivering bustle of the extinct harbours. A million exposed frames. Somebody’s whole life and experiences for sale at a flea market.
The surprising discovery opens the door to a lost world and leads the viewer to a journey around the world - and even further - with a forgotten adventurer, an old sailor."

I used em dashes when SMS messages had 160 character limits to —really— put emphasis on words.
I also use them in place of semicolons — I find it easier to read and doesn’t remind people of English class.
It helps that I have been writing this way for a while. My MySpace had em dashes back when the smartest AI we had was IBM’s Watson.
