Those H100s are $25k minimum. So $200,000 just in GPUs. Drawing 700W each, or 5.6kW total. At my local prices that’s about a dollar per hour just for electricity.

It’s going to take you a couple of years to break even at $20/h. They might still hold some value at that point. Or they might be obsolete.

I do enjoy the process. Changing a bit of code and getting immediate visual feedback is a very enjoyable loop to be in until I’ve achieved what I set out to do. And those heureka-moments when you make giant leaps are just the cream on top.

I usually don’t. But this year I have a new-to-me car that had a couple of cross-threaded wheelbolts. Changing the whole hub is pricy and the shop refused to replace just the bolt. I managed to re-thread the other.

Anywho, most lug nuts were really on there, so I gave them a dab of marine grease. I always re-tighten at 1, 100 and 1000km and before any longer trip. But they haven’t moved at all since the 1km re-tightening.

My toddler is thriving in pre-school. We can’t teach her how to be independent and socialise with other kids at home.

I can see a life situation where we would homeschool for a limited time. I’d expect both teaching parent and kid to do standardised testing to make sure the education is up to the national curriculum.

Home schooling should be be an excuse to not school, which it seems to be in some parts of the world.

Not really, but they’ve regulated very similarly to public schools. They have to follow the national curriculum and can’t charge tuition.

In practice I’ve only ever seen Waldorf schools as far as private goes. Maybe internatioal baccalaureate is private, too? I guess there might be some with focus on going pro athlete, too.

I’ve had better luck with llama.cpp for opencode. I’m guessing it does formatting better for tool use.

I’m coming from the past, back when the distribution came on two HD diskettes named Linux 0.99b. It was a gradual change to come to the point where you could just assume that you’d have a good time on Linux. I guess static kernel modules was the starting point, and even then it took years. Remember, We’ve only had loadable kernel modules since 2011.

ARM is a different story, mostly hindered by not having any universal way of booting and detecting hardware.

400€ in 2006-money is 600€ today. Starlabs used to have a cheap model, but I guess it’s hard for anyone to be in the budget segment with RAM prices these days. I bought a huawei matebook a few years back for about 600€ - they’re sold with Linux pre-installed in China, but not here. But that means that stuff is well-supported.

In my mind the landscape is quite a bit better than 20 years ago. You’d have to pick and choose a model that worked well then. Chipsets are usually well supported by the time they are in laptops today.

The Microsoft tax has been under pretty heavy NDAs lately, but it wouldn’t surprise me if M$ were paying to be pre-installed. They’re in the data mining business, not operating systems in 2026.

But yes, we’re all still waiting for the year of the Linux desktop.
