I’ve read it a couple times, including a year or two ago - it’s held up really, really well.

Heh, no, I really never play for anyone. I didn’t start learning until I was 30, so even though that’s more than 30 years ago, I’m not great. But I like playing and singing along. I play for the cat. She doesn’t enjoy it.

I have one of his series on my list - probably Mistborn - but haven’t read it. I mostly read SF, but a decent amount of fantasy too.
FYI I’ve been keeping notes on the things I read - here’s my 2025 post with links to the earlier ones.

I retired last year, but it was a horrible year (30-year marriage fell apart, had to sell our house and find a condo, stressful move, etc.), so even though it’s been more than a year, I’ve only recently gotten to the “do what I want” phase. It’s probably somewhat colored by the recent stresses, but I find I really just like staying home and laying low. I read a stupid amount of SF and fantasy, play my guitar, play a bunch of classic wow with online friends, and occasionally go to lunch with real life friends. Maybe I’ll get to the point of wanting to go out and do stuff, but for now I’m happy with the quiet life.

Well, with wire, you can thread it through the holes and then wrap it around itself.
But here’s an alternative. Get a couple of pictures hooks, something like this . Tie one onto each end of a piece of string or wire. Put the hooks into the holes on your clock, then hang out over the thing on the wall.

A wire between them is what would make sense. What caused the “no such luck,” and why can’t you use two screws?

I’m more of an SF person, but I really enjoyed the Raksura series, by Martha Wells, about a guy who can shape shift into a sort of dragon. I’m also currently rereading the Amber Chronicles, by Roger Zelazny, and it’s very good.
In case it helps any, I made a post with a giant number of spoiler-free short reviews of SF and fantasy books I’ve read over the last few years, and many of the books mentioned here are in them.

I’m in my early 60s and went from walking to jogging a couple years ago. I did it differently than you. My usual walk was about two miles, and I just started jogging the portion I could and walking the rest. At first, my jogging was only a couple blocks, but as I kept doing it, I got to be able to go further, a little at a time. My goal was really just to keep my heart rate up for 20 to 30 minutes and get some cardio.
So I’m there now. I jog a couple miles every other day. Takes me about 25 minutes, so I’m not breaking any speed records, but my heart rate is between 150 and 170 for much of it, so I feel like I’m meeting my goal.

Probably a number of others
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I keep notes on what I read and have been making an annual post here on Lemmy for a few years running. Here’s my 2025 post with links to the earlier ones. There are so many books across those posts that your eyes might glaze over (the earlier posts are a little lighter on notes, the later ones a little heavier), but I generally try to say whether I like a book or not, and why.
That being said, my favorite author currently writing is Adrian Tchaikovsky, and almost everything he writes is great (and he’s really prolific). I’m currently reading Cage of Souls by him, which I’m enjoying.
If you can tell me the kinds of things you like, I could maybe make more specific recommendations.
