    We talk up our snakes, but they want mice not us, they flee if they notice us, and only attack if cornered. Most people are noisy, and are only out in summer when the snakes have plenty of energy, so they don’t see snakes. When you go bushwalking in cool weather you sometimes see a black snake soaking up sunlight on a path (because there’s no tree cover there). You just wait a few metres back and it’ll move off soon
