The books have progressive messages in them that appeal to people who value inclusivity, even if the writer is a hypocrite. Yeah, the books have some issues, like the proslavery stuff, but you can still be left wing and like the books despite those things
The books have lots of issues. The racist names, the Jewish caricature goblins, the villification of asexuality, the slave heads in santa hats, the fatphobia, the misogyny, the problematic gay allegory… I don’t blame kids for not picking up on that stuff, but any adult who still likes those books is a conservative.
