The Forest Service and private loggers say they use glyphosate because it helps commercially attractive conifers like pine and Douglas fir rebound faster after fires and timber harvests. It does so by killing deciduous trees, native shrubs, flowering plants, and anything else that might compete for water, nutrients, and sunlight. In short, a key rationale for spraying a disputed chemical in natural settings boils down to executives and regulators treating forests, including our national forests, as tree farms.

    Absolutly evil

This seems so fucking short sighted and stupid.

You’ve got an ecosystem that has evolved/developed for large infrequent burns, and you kill 90% of it.

Here in Ontario we get fires, then you see blueberry bushes pop up and take advantage of all that sunlight. They grow quick, with some grasses. The soil clears up and animals come in and then years later the trees return and grow strong.

It’s how it’s been since time immemorial. If we killed the blueberries the soil would dry and harden in the sun, the soot wouldn’t get turned, and the ecosystem wouldn’t recover.

MAHA wants crop chemicals reduced, if not banned entirely, but that could prove a tough sell.

MAHA as a health initiative makes token efforts like calling for the removal of food dyes, disguising actual health harms being perpetuated by the Trump administration such as reductions in healthcare spending. As a government initiative, MAHA itself is not against Roundup for as long as Monsanto keeps bribing Trump.

Voters should stop pretending that Trump cares about the health or wellness of anyone other than himself.

California fucking loves glyphosate. One of the weird incongruous things I noticed when I moved here. People use it for fucking everything.
