The government should immediately ban the sale and promotion of glasses that contain recording capability. The government should explore using existing laws, such as RIPA, GDPR, DPA to take immediate action, whilst beginning the process of new legislation.
Not sure how I feel about them. On one hand they appear to allow pervy recordings, but banning something like this could open the way to prevent public recordings altogether by the back door. There has been ways to do covert recording in a similar way without the glasses in the past, so I think the main change is the blurring of special purpose hardware and everyday hardware.
I feel a specific offence for convert targeted recording of a person for sexual reasons would be better than just banning smart glasses.
It might actually be the fact that Facebook are the ones making that makes me not like them.

Yes but it’s meta, do you think they’ll give you repair rights? You’ll have to go aftermarket and take risks, which most people are not willing to do.
Don’t get me wrong I would be much happier with a ban outright. But it does have good usecases. Charity my wife volunteers at, there is a blind lady that uses meta glasses to essentially read a lot of stuff like labels off of food packaging sings in front of the buildings etc etc. She could do it with her phone, but she is genuinely much happier with the glasses. Her alone is the reason I don’t want to ban them outright. Maybe ban them for sighted people? I don’t know.

That doesn’t sound bad, but usually when you have a device you can modify it to remove any signals visible from the outside
