    California is effectively an energy island due to the mountain range separating us from most of the oil pipelines and production areas in the middle of the nation. That’s one of the reasons why fuel prices are so high here (and along with favorable climate, why EVs have a stronger presence than in most other states).

    Because of that situation, we have state reserves and import from tankers similar to the federal system on the other end of the country.
