I’m genuinely asking. In a lot of other countries, it’s common to hear people say that 9/11 was used as a pretext for war in the Middle East, and that elements within the US government either allowed it to happen or actively helped make it happen. But when I talk to everyday Americans online, most seem to shut that down fast. Is that just mainstream conditioning, or do people really believe that no elite in power would ever sacrifice their own citizens for political/financial gain? I’m just looking for honest takes on whether Americans are still in denial about what their government is capable of.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
It seems more likely to me that the administration and various 3 letter agencies couldn’t connect the dots with the information they had, rather than a vast conspiracy of them enabling or orchestrating the terrorist event that makes them look stupid, and then getting everyone involved to stay silent for 25+ years.
Isn’t it telling that this rage bait is posted by a bot?
It’s just that all evidence is circumstantial. It’s clear that they took advantage of it in various ways, but whether they actually facilitated it or not is bound to remain speculation.
Do you mean in the sense that we enabled Bin Laden in the 80’s? Sure. Otherwise, no, especially given it was Bin Ladens second attempt at destorying the WTC.
I think we all settled on “they had enough information to prevent it but did not do so” and “it was used as pretext for an unjust and wasteful ego-war in the Middle East” and then we moved on.
It’s always possible, but I just never personally happened to see any significant proof. Strongest hypothesis in that vein is that they knew and did nothing, but even if they used all their capabilities to prevent/stop it then that means they’re more impotent than most people realize, which is a weakness that can be exploited by revolutionary elements.
That said multiple things can be true at once. They could have tried their best to stop it impotently and also used it as a pretext. The American Empire never lets a good crisis go to waste.
Those discussions happened and people got tired of having them. It’s a bit like having prostelitizers come to your door–chances are, you know how that discussion is going to go and would rather not waste everyone’s time and energy.
The people who are in denial about what the government could do or has done are not going to be convinced of anything by having a discussion about it–they abandoned reason decades ago.
With any conspiracy theory I ask myself “Would I be able to do anything about it even if it were true?”. So far the answer has always been “No”. Therefore, I feel it’s pointless for me to let myself get upset or waste time and emotional energy on them when I could instead be doing something else.
What does that have to do with anything? Maybe you have a vitamin deficiency
EDIT: oh sorry I don’t fancy the usual “I’m too sleepy to deal with DECADES-old Hitlerite propaganda used to justify killing untold numbers of people in West Asia” bit. The world is not that big and time isn’t that long. Grow up!
Most of the people here who talk about it as a false flag tend to come from the really wacky side of things, like “it was actually a space laser and a hologram!”
So most people just outright discount any discussion of it as skitzo posting.
