Taos is home to a lot of alternative building ideas. The earth ship community is there. There are actually building codes in New Mexico for adobe, a very traditional local material, as well as rammed earth, the slightly more modern iteration of building with dirt. It’s also a wonderful state for solar energy. The only significant geographic challenge across most of the state is water.
