  • Not to put fuel on the fire because I don’t think there is anything to worry about right now. But when genuine AI is developed that can challenge average human intelligence, it AI be the most significant military development since the first person picked up a rock to brain another person.

It will be by default to secret and a critical military tool. So don’t kid yourself that we will ever have AI for the common man. We won’t even know it exists until someone takes over the world with it.

That said, there is no basis to believe AI is imminent.

  • There’s no reason to think we are anywhere near developing actual AI as science fiction depicts. LLMs are cool in some ways, but there are upper limits that they will never be able to exceed. That’s why I’m not worried about them taking a significant number of jobs, much less displacing us.

Now, there will be jobs lost and some jobs will evolve to more like slop-fix instead of doing a thing. But essentially this particular arc of technology is doomed but it will be painful before the wealthy investors figure that out. And it will be even more painful afterward as they fight to recoup losses and rape wage-slaves and consumers.

But in maybe ten years after another painful economic contraction, I think AI will be one more tool aspect to many jobs. That’s all. No need to worry about new doomsday scenarios. The traditional ones like environmental devastation remain on schedule.

  • I work my ass off. More than anyone would think is reasonable. Thing is I’m not sure what else to do with myself anyway.

But also I’m sitting at a resort with the love of my life in the Dominican Republic soaking my balls in a pleasantly cool pool and smoking a cigar. Which I can do because I work my ass off. I wouldn’t tell anyone they should follow my example because I’m probably going to work myself into an early heart attack and there are plenty of less expensive ways to enjoy yourself on a week off. And my back is so bad from sitting at a desk all day that I can barely walk most mornings.

But right at this moment I feel like I’m living my best life. And swimming in the ocean every day has improved my back so much in a week. I need to get a house on the ocean some day.

Idk if this sounds like humble bragging I don’t mean it that way. I really have nothing to do with my time but work. I don’t have any friends other than family and whomever happens to sit nearby for a few minutes. I really don’t recommend it if you’re not driven to be this way.

  • Cultivate other habits. When you’re bored, do some exercise or whittle some wood or do a puzzle. If your replace your bad habits with something else, you’ll find it easier. I deleted Facebook and other apps that have notification counters, and I use them through PWA. Now I check Facebook once a month or less and they spy on me less. Same with LinkedIn. Lemmy is also PWA but I’m on here much more because I chose to be.

But I’ve mostly replaced my ADHD scanning with work, not anything healthy or fun.
